Chemical Dispersants

Which chemicals are in chemical dispersants?
How/why are they better than oil? (Both are poisonous and harmful, but which one is better?)
In which incidents have they previously been used?

  1. Well Rory, a variety of chemicals are in chem. dispersants. a lot of them are extremely harmful and dangerous to organic matter.

oil would actually be better than the dispersant they are using in the gulf right now.

they have been used in a variety of different oil spills before, but the ones that they were used in, the people who came into contact with it begane to get some health issues.

  3. I don't know the exact names of chemicals, but I do know some other products they are in. There are six ingredients. The first is a wetting agent in juice drinks like caprisuns. The second is in a body shampoo. The third is in baby bath additive. The fourth is in many cosmetic products. The fifth is in soap scum products like Kaboom. The last one is in lotions. Hope this helps.

    2) They are NOT better than oil. If they are 3 or 4 times as toxic, we're just tripling or quadrupling the issue.
    and:
3)Chemical dipersants were used to clean up oil spills throughout the 70's and 80's.
